His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai, officially inaugurated the specialist industry event, Commercial Vehicles Middle East.

Running for three days at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the exhibition is being staged in tandem with the Commercial Vehicles Conference, creating a dual platform with a double focus on fleet operational efficiency as well as cost savings.

A panel of industry experts from leading transport organisations will address key issues over the first two days of the conference ahead of a feature seminar on the final day outlining the new RTA heavy vehicle trailer inspection and registration process being rolled out in 2012.

One of the highlights on the opening day is a presentation from Jörg Spanke, Shell Business Team Manager of Retail & Automotive Fuels, who will outline to delegates Shell’s Smarter Mobility Solutions and its newly formulated Shell Diesel Extra.

The new fuel, which made the Guinness World Records in 2008 for its part in the longest non-stop commercial truck drive in Italy, was launched in the UAE in July 2011, and allows fleet managers to save fuel by up to 3% over the lifetime of their vehicles, while also reducing CO2 emissions by 55 tonnes per truck every year.

“Drivers, fleet managers and industry operators in the Middle East demand engine protection and greater fuel efficiency,” said Spanke. “We want to illustrate at Commercial Vehicles Middle East how our solutions can help make our customers achieve greater energy efficiency today and prepare them for tomorrow.”

Many exhibitors are using the exhibition floor as an important platform to launch their latest products and services in the Middle East, as they look to impress thousands of visiting transport, fleet and logistics decision makers from across the region.

Arabian Automobiles, the sole distributor in the UAE for Nissan, Infiniti and Renault will introduce to the Middle East the 4.8 litre Nissan Patrol Pick-Up. Boasting 280hp from a V6 engine, the latest model is recognised as the best in its class for power and acceleration.

After achieving 17% sales growth in the UAE for 2011, the flagship company of the AW Rostamani Group is expecting a bumper year in 2012, in which they expect the overall automobile market in the UAE to grow between eight and 10%. More info
