Implementation of Dubai Metro’s WiMAX network that offers commuters internet connectivity on-board trains is now complete, says Cairo-based Mobiserve.
Mobiserve, solution providers for telecommunication and engineering services, says the WiMAX network for the Dubai Metro allows commuters internet access on all WiFi enabled devices including smartphones and laptops. Average broadband speeds at stations can reach 4Mbps, while backhauling to the network through WiMAX sees speeds reach about 2Mbps onboard the trains.
The network, installed on behalf of Du, is said to be the first mobile WiMAX network deployed in the United Arab Emirates.
Mobiserve began work on the project last year in June and completed implementation on over 20 stations city-wide within three months.
“As the Middle East’s first rail line Wi-Fi enabled network, Dubai Metro’s WiMAX network marks a real evolution in Dubai’s transport by giving commuters truly mobile Internet while traveling on the go,” said Sameh Atalla, CEO of Mobiserve.
Since its launch on September 9th last year, Du revealed that thousands of passengers link to the WiFi network at Dubai Metro stations every day.
