The advanced technology utilized by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to uplift the caliber of services rendered to public transport users plays a crucial role in defining the shape of public transport network in Dubai Emirate besides integrating mass transit systems such as the metro, public buses, water bus and water taxi.

Among the key technologies which the RTA is encouraging public transport commuters to use is the public transport network on digital Google Maps; which is made available for users round the clock such that residents, visitors and tourists of Dubai Emirate can be able to plan in advance for their daily travels through RTA Journey Planner (Wojhati) as per the agreement made between the RTA and Google Inc.

Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of RTA Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, said: “Following its launch on 09/09/2011, the Metro Green Line has been uploaded on Google Maps to enable users plan in advance their daily travels on all RTA public transport means, thus enabling smooth, speedy and accurate mobility to the intended destinations.

“This service enables users of various types of public transport in Dubai Emirate to plan their daily travels in a smooth and easy manner at any time they wish through Google Maps portal (www.maps.google.com) by using their computers or smart phones. The routes of the proposed journey will then be displayed with full details, schedules and fare of each journey depending on the point of origin, destination and timing of the journey.

This service enables residents & visitors alike to enquire about the schedules and routes of different journeys and have them displayed in a 3-D mode, thus rendering Dubai a leading global city using this technology amongst top cities with advanced transport systems worldwide, and at the same time epitomizing RTA vision of providing Safe and Smooth Transport for All.

“The transit information uploaded on Google Maps reflects our vision of offering users the information that assists them in their daily life. The ability to track the optimal daily travelling routes through the computer of mobile phone is an invaluable tool for users throughout Dubai Emirate,” added Al Madani.

It is worth-mentioning that RTA signed a joint agreement with Google Inc (Middle East) in 2009 whereby the information of public transport by buses in Dubai Emirate will be uploaded on Google Maps rendering Dubai by then the first city in the Middle East & North Africa to upload its bus information on Google Maps and rank it among more than 50 global cities using this technology such as London, Paris, New York, Zurich and other cities with advanced transportation systems across the globe.
