The Saudi Arabian Cabinet has announced plans to build a smart mass transit system in Madinah over the next eight years.
A weekly meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, ordered the setting up of a higher committee for the project which will see metro trains and fast bus services introduced into the city.
The committee will be chaired by Madinah Governor Prince Faisal bin Salman, who is also head of the Madinah Development Authority, and will include ministers of municipal and rural affairs, finance and transport.
“The higher committee will supervise the implementation of the project and will set up an executive committee to be headed by the Madinah mayor. The mass transit project should be completed in eight years,” Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja said in a statement received by Arab News. More info
