The Dubai Metro will run for an extra hour on Thursdays and Fridays and stop for 10 seconds less at all stations.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said it has made the changes following public demand and field surveys.
The changes will take effect from October 15, coinciding with the opening of five new Metro stations namely Nakheel, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Sharaf DG, First Gulf Bank and Business Bay.
The key changes include changing the operational hours, service frequency time and the waiting time at the stations.
Adnan Al Hamadi, the CEO of the Rail Agency of RTA, said: “During weekdays from Saturday to Wednesday, the Metro operation will be from 6am up to 11 pm. On Thursdays it will be operational from 6am to 12 midnight. On Fridays the Metro service will be from 1pm to 12 midnight.”
Earlier the Metro used to run only until 11pm on Thursdays and start at 2pm on Fridays.
“The service frequency will vary depending on the weekdays and the peak hours and will be ranging from eight to six minutes. Service frequency will be 10 minutes from 9pm to 11 pm from Saturday to Wednesday, eight minutes on Thursday and Friday, 10 minutes from 11pm to 12 midnight, and eight minutes on Fridays,” he said.
Al Hamadi said that the change also included slashing the stop time at stations from 30 seconds to 20 seconds.
