The number of closed-circuit TV cameras keeping watch over Dubai Metro’s system will reach to about 3,000 by the end of next year, according to a report.
Also there will be a cadre of 800 officers patrolling, operating out of two new Metro police stations, according to The National daily.
Col Abdulla Ali Abdulla Al Ghithi, Director of the Public Transport Security told the Abu-Dhabi daily that all the above is part of the Transport Police’s efforts to make the Metro attractive, safe and user-friendly.
Officers “can take control and care of the people as well as provide safety for passengers,” he said.
The two small police stations at the Khalid Bin Waleed and Union Square stops will allow officers to deploy more efficiently, Al Ghithi said.
Officers will closely watch the CCTV cameras and track problems, including crime, The National said.
Last week on Friday, Dubai Metro saw its highest number of journeys taken in one day since it opened to the public, as more than 60,000 passengers travelled on the Red Line, official figures showed.
