The construction of a new highway linked Abu Dhabi to Dubai is 70 percent complete and on track to be finished by the end of this year.
State news agency WAM said that the road, which runs from Seih Shuaib, on the Abu Dhabi side of the border with Dubai, to the Sweihan Interchange, has four lanes in each direction.
The $571 million highway will link up with the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) at Seih Shuaib.
It will pass through Al Maha Forest and the KIZAD industrial zone, and will feature six bridges and six underground passes.
“The new highway will relieve traffic on the current Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road, bring down the number of accidents, connect Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone with current and future road networks,” said Faisal Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Highways at the Department of Transport, according to WAM.
