Dubai: More than three million Nol cards which are used for public transport including the Dubai Metro, buses and water transport have been sold since the launch of the Metro on September 9, 2009.
“This comes to an average of more than 5,000 Nol cards of different categories being sold every day and it shows that how fast is the public transport system getting popular in Dubai,” said Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of the Corporate Technical Support Services at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)
The Nol silver card is the top seller with sales records showing about 3,000 cards being sold daily. The sales records also show that the total number of Nol cards of various categories sold from the launch of the metro service to the end of April this year has exceeded three million cards, added Al Madani.
He said the Metro project has yet to complete its second year, but the number of metro commuters which is now more than 150,000 every day, is showing an upward trend due to efficient services and facilities along with the mass transit service on offer.
Al Madani noted that daily transactions are up due to the radical change in the public transport sector in Dubai. “Over the past years RTA has been working on upgrading its services to cope with the tempo and flexibility of the daily life,” he added.
The RTA offers four categories of Nol cards: the Red card, Silver Card, Gold Card and the personalised Blue Card.
