Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana), the nation’s leading owner and operator of mass public transport system and services, has won the bid to be the ‘Shadow Operator’ for Phase One of the Mecca Metro, beating contenders from Turkey and Korea, among others.
Announcing the triumph in a media statement today, Prasarana Group managing director Dato’ Sri Shahril Mokhtar said the win, the first international success by the Group since its venture in to the international market early last year, was a testament to the fact that Prasarana was on par with some of the best rail operators in the world.
“In addition to bringing us closer to realizing our vision to be the preferred provider of a world-class mass public transport system, the win enhances our position to secure the upcoming bids for the operations and maintenance of the four Mecca Metrolines, in addition to the operations and maintenance of the Al-Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro Southern Line Project,” said Shahril.
