Qatar’s estimated $41.8bn in railway projects top those across all other GCC countries, with many scheduled to be ready in time to host the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, said a Big 5 report.
As much as $149bn is being spent on rail projects, either in planning or construction stages, over the next decade across the GCC, but Qatar’s sector stands out as the most buoyant, with ongoing projects at various stages of development, said the report, commissioned for The Big 5 2012.
Four projects – Doha Metro, Lusail City light rail transit network, the West Bay transit system and the GCC rail network – are scheduled for completion in 2016, to commence operations in 2019. More info
