The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) calls upon the public to take part in the Public Transport Day, which is held for the third time running, and celebrated Thursday the 1st of November.

Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic, Traffic & Roads Agency and Deputy Head of Public Transport Day, said: “The objective of the event is to attract the public and introduce them to the benefits of using public transport. Holders of Nol cards will be offered free rides on the day on public transport means including the metro, public buses and the Water Bus.

“We have prepared a number of events at the metro stations, Al Seef Road, Al Guhbaiba Bus Station and inside RTA premises. The RTA has allocated a number of prizes for public quizzes where winners will be awarded iPads, bikes and Nol cards in addition to a host of prizes that will be distributed free of charge to public transport users.”

The Deputy Head of Public Transport Day added: “The gist of this year’s celebrations revolves around showcasing the health benefits accruing to users of public transport means; which is a smart & practical idea as it provides a direct and smooth link between the benefits of public transport means and the public health. Therefore we have coordinated with the Dubai Health Authority to hold health workshops at the Dubai Healthcare City Metro Station and the Airport Terminal 3 Metro Station, in addition to a blood donation campaign at Al Ghubaiba Bus Station where the first 100 donors will be issued with complimentary Nol cards. The RTA also held a workshop for employees at the Head Office about the benefits of using public transit means.

“During preparations for the Public Transport Day, we were keen to ensure that events are diverse, serve the public and include recreational and festive episodes. Therefore we opted to hold performances and shows at Al Seef Road comprising performances by mobile artists, and an introductory show about public transport in Dubai.

“The RTA also prepared educative quizzes about public transport for each valuable prizes are offered including iPads, bikes and Nol cards to be distributed to winners from the public.

“We have also prepared a contest titled ‘Look for the Key’ where 10 bikes are offered for lucky commuters who can find the key located in one of the metro stations. Ads relating to this contest have already been published in stations detailing the contest and applicable conditions. We have also got a contest titled ‘The Best Image of a Public Transport Means’ for which participation photos can be uploaded on RTA portal on the Facebook. Six winning photos will be selected and the first three finishers will receive iPads, and the other three will go away with Nol Cards with a balance of 500 dirham per card. 10 Nol cards, with a balance of 250 dirham per card, will be distributed to the winners of the Radio Contest to be transmitted in some local radios during the Public Transport Day,” he continued.

Al Banna urged the public to positively interact with the events and quizzes held tomorrow (Thursday), and avail the promotional offers & benefits presented by the RTA to the public on the Public Transport Day. More info
