The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching the Dubai Youth for Public Transport (Dubai Y4PT) initiative with the aim of encouraging the use of public transport means through rolling out innovative edutainment activities that contribute to sustainability, raise the quality of life in Dubai Emirate, and uplift the profile of Dubai’s youth amongst cosmopolitan cities worldwide in supporting the infrastructure and public transport sector. The initiative consists of 40 youths comprising citizens and residents of Dubai.

H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, said: “The underlying idea of launching the Dubai Youth for Public Transport initiative is to support RTA’s efforts in leveraging the role of mass transit systems in the mobility of people across the Emirate, besides that it fits well and complements the initiative of the International Public Transport Association (UITP): Youth For Public Transport Foundation (Y4PT) launched during the recent UITP Congress held in Geneva, particularly as the RTA is the patron of this Foundation, and lends material and moral support to its activities. The official launch of this initiative coincides with the launch of the UITP MENA Public Transport Congress & Exhibition organized by the RTA in April this year.

Through this initiative, the RTA is seeking to realize its strategic goals and objectives in support of its vision of providing Safe and Smooth Transport for All. This is being contemplated through encouraging the youth to come up with public transport-based projects or contests, disseminating the culture of choosing the public transport amongst the youths, boosting the creative and innovative drive across the public transport sector with the aim of enticing youths to contribute fresh ideas, capitalizing on talents & capabilities of youth in promoting public transit means, participating in international events of relevance to public transport to represent the UAE, and taking part in organizing public transport events held by the RTA.

Al Tayer expressed hope for the Dubai Y4PT initiative to contribute to diffusing the culture of mass transport which the RTA is seeking to promote all over the community.

The RTA has formed a committee to oversee the implementation of the Dubai Y4PT initiative chaired by Eisa Al Hashimi, Director of Business Planning and Development at Public Transport Agency; with Waleed Ameeri, Projects Manager at the Office of RTA’s Chairman of the Board and Executive Director, as 1st Deputy Chairperson, Ms. Adhaijah Al Khaiyyli, Head of Mobility Programs and Transport Information, as 2nd Second Deputy Chairperson, and several Emirati employees of the RTA as members. This committee will cater to selecting members of the Dubai Y4PT initiative comprising young volunteers from citizens and residents of the Emirate of Dubai, besides identifying and following up the implementation of projects and programs of the initiative.

The Organizational Chart of the Dubai Y4PT initiative comprises volunteer members including a Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, and Secretary in addition to three teams namely: Events & Projects Team, Communication & Marketing Team, and Development & Innovation Team.

The RTA will follow-up and accord support to the Dubai Y4PT initiative, oversee plans & programs in place, ensure the realization of the objectives, allocate a budget, coordinate with public & private entities in support of the objectives & programs of the initiative, and contribute to marketing the activities & programs of the initiative via RTA media channels.

A number of tasks and objectives have been mapped out for the initiative including planning and implementing programs & activities related to supporting public transport, promoting public transport in Dubai, participating in conferences, workshops and events related to public transport, coordinating with universities, colleges, schools and entities concerned with the promotion of the objectives of the initiative, and attracting youth volunteers to support the objectives of the initiative.
