RTA maps out strategic plans for extending assets lifecycle

Marking its participation in the 19th Annual Maintenance Management Conference held by The Institute for International Research (IIR) Middle East over 4 days in Mövenpick Hotel, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai and attended by a plethora of asset management experts & practitioners worldwide, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) stressed its keenness on adopting strategic plans that have immense contribution to leveraging maintenance operations and extending the useful lifespan of assets.

Udai Al Deesi, Director of Asset Management, RTA Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, said: “The RTA is quite keen on participating in asset management events in line with its objectives & plans aimed at raising the business conduct to bring it to the highest international standards.” He highlighted the importance of the 19th Annual Maintenance Management Conference which attracted considerable numbers of top asset management experts, noting that such an event contributed to sharing common practices and improving methods adopt by various parties of the industry.

“RTA Asset Management made a visual presentation in the Conference where it spotlighted the strategies adopted by the Department which have had a significant role in improving the maintenance operations, and extending the lifespan of assets. The presentation focused on three key aspects; the first was the strategic drive for extending the lifecycle of asset through optimal utilization & improving the maintenance practices in place. The second was how to take appropriate decisions during asset lifecycle, particularly during the maintenance phase, through gathering wide knowledge about the need to replace, maintain or recycle the asset or continue to use it if it was in a good operational condition. The third was how to build up a detailed database for managing and planning effective & risk-based maintenance strategies,” elaborated Al Deesi.

“The participation in this Conference offered a great platform to meet with various asset management specialists and familiarize with the best methods and systems adopted in drawing up optimal asset utilization plans in order for us to apply the same to RTA internal or external assets on roads such as bridges, tunnels, light signals, sophisticated intelligent systems and public transit means that reflect the huge infrastructure development made by Dubai Emirate,” said the Director of RTA Asset Management in a final remark.
