Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is offering a limited number of retail outlets at various stations of Dubai Metro Red line; which represent the last batch of outlets offered to investors in this unique project. More than 80% of retail outlets on Dubai Metro Red Line have already been awarded to the winning companies.

“Contracts are being awarded through bids that witnessed intense participation in a way that reasserts the confidence pinned by investors in the economy of the emirate, and endorses the investment potentials created by the investment facilities on offer” said Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim, CEO of RTA Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector”. He continued.

“The success made by the bidding for the retail outlets of the metro stations is a true reflection of the excellence of Dubai Metro Project, the public confidence in this pioneer project, and the positive impact made on the daily life of people.

“Accordingly tens of thousands of commuters are now using the metro in their daily travels, thereby creating one of the most attractive opportunities in retail sector in Dubai. From the start of the metro operation on 09.09.09 till 09.12.09, about six million passengers used the Red Line of Dubai Metro travelling across 10 stations only. Statistics compiled by RTA Rail Agency show that the number of metro commuters is steadily on the rise.

“Commercial outlets on offer at the metro stations include general retail outlets such as restaurants, cafes, convenient stores, property showrooms, bank services, ATM, IT communication systems and computers. Bid winning companies will operate retail outlets extending along 29 stations on the Red Line to deliver convenient services to passengers using the metro on daily basis. Business hours of these outlets will be aligned with the business hours of the metro stations in which they are built.

“RTA is currently tendering the remaining 26 outlets amid a remarkable increase in the number of offers made by companies which intend to invest in the retail outlets offered by the RTA. All documents related to the tender are available at counter No. 11 of RTA Main Customer Service Center at Umm Ramool, Dubai and the deadline for submitting bids for the remaining outlets is 14/01/2009” added Abdul Mohsin.

RTA has tendered the metro retail outlets to meet investors’ demand and cater for the rising demand for retail outlets in the local market, particularly noting that the launch of Dubai Metro service has created a new investment environment in the emirate. Rented outlets have already started commercial operation; others are under awarding process but will shortly be offered to customers.

Several big companies have rented the retail outlets offered by the RTA such as UAE Exchange, Community Health, Netlink’s Internet Heroes, al Shaya Food and Beverages, Starbucks, Alphamed Group, Tradeline, LLC’s Chowking, Fresh Fruits company, and EPCCO’s Aqua, among others.
