The Department of Administrative Affairs, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), has recently held an awareness-raising campaign in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) about diabetes and how to guard against the disease.

The campaign, which targeted RTA employees and external customers through subjecting them to free tests to measure the levels of sugar, blood pressure and weight, is part of the community-oriented initiatives undertaken by the Dep’t in cooperation with various agencies and government entities in Dubai.

Ahlam Al-Feel, Director of RTA Administrative Services, praised this cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority with the aim of realizing a single objective of diffusing the sound health education among RTA employees, and prompting them to undergo tests conducted by specialist doctors from the DHA.

“The campaign, which lasted three days, made a substantial success judging by the number of participants. It covered important tests that community members should go through such that we can collectively curb the prevalence of diabetes; which is continuously on the rise, posing a threat to the entire communities. This warrants government and private entities in the UAE to cooperate and communicate with the medical & health authorities in carrying out periodic tests for employees as a first step towards eliminating diabetes and blood pressure,” she noted.

During the awareness campaign, educative booklets were distributed elucidating the preventive measures to be taken to curb the harmful effects of diabetes, and highlighting the importance of taking appropriate consultations from the medical staff.
