RTA completes 90% of Dubai's road projects
While the RTA marks its sixth anniversary and free public transport day today for the second consecutive year, it has announced the completion of 90 per cent of its roads, traffic and public transport projects at a cost of more than Dh60 billion while more than Dh44 billion will be spent on more projects by 2020.

Indian, Italian firms win UAE rail deal
The UAE has awarded a Dh3.3 billion contract to a consortium of one Indian company and two Italian firms involving construction and engineering work for a mega rail project that could cost a total Dh40 billion. Etihad Rail has estimated the project’s total costs at Dh40 billion and that once it is completed, it will have a capacity to transport nearly16 million passengers and 50 million tonnes of cargo per year.
RTA entertains elderly to a fun tour of metro stations, heritage...
A fun tour, organized by the Women's Committee, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), to some metro stations and heritage areas in Dubai for a horde of senior citizens organized in cooperation with the Elderly Nursing Homes in the UAE, was well-received by the elderly, offering them a source of joy and happiness.

Qatar Railways delays metro tenders
Ghanim Al-Ibrahim, director of Qatar Railways Co (QRC) has said the tenders for the country's planned metro system will be delayed until the first quarter of 2012 in order to complete more detailed studies on the project, Reuters has reported. Qatar plans to spend a total of QR150bn ($41.2bn) on the metro project, which will link stadia for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Dubai Airport launches SnoozeCube to increase traveller comfort
Called SnoozeCube, each of the accommodation units contains a full-sized bed, a touch-screen television offering a selection of entertainment and music, as well as high speed internet access. Most importantly, the units are connected to the airport’s flight information system to ensure that passengers do not miss their flights.

The RTA, earlier this year, launched a unique online service for owners of commercial vehicles, called bulk registration, wherein a company can register all its vehicles due for registration at one go, by the single click of a button.
100,000 expected to leave cars 
behind on free transport day
As many as 606,000 people used public transport on November 1 last year, a 39 per cent increase from the daily average of 436,700 riders in 2010. This year, the response is expected to be even greater, with the Green Line of the metro being an added attraction.
