Metro, bus and water bus rides will be free for all commuters holding Nol cards till midnight on Friday as the Roads and Transport Authority marks its fourth Public Transport Day.

Dozens of gifts will up for grabs for commuters including Nol cards and cash prizes apart from free trips on Friday as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) marks fourth Public Transport Day (PT Day) in Dubai.

Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic, Traffic & Roads Agency and Deputy Head of Public Transport Day, said: “The objective of the event is to attract the public and introduce them to the benefits of using public transport. Holders of Nol cards will be offered free rides on the day on public transport means including the metro, public buses and the Water Bus.

The Public Transport Agency - Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has recently inaugurated 9 new internal bus routes within Dubai Emirate in addition to one inter-city service shuttling between Dubai and Abu Dhabi to boost the bus transit network and keep up with the rising demand for mass transit means in general and public buses in particular.

The popular bus route was a lifeline for hundreds of workers who were dependent on it for their daily commutation between office and home. However, much to their chagrin, the route was cancelled following the launch of Dubai Metro in September 2009.
