The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has appointed Serco Middle East to manage and operate the system under a 7 year licence to 2014 with an option to extend for another 5 years to 2019. The RTA is responsible for all public transport in Dubai including the Metro, buses, taxis and water taxis
Maintenance on the Dubai Metro
Gulf News visits the people who keep Dubai's Metro trains in good order and running smoothly. A maintenance worker inspects a train at the Al Rashidiya depot. Inspection is done by engineers through a computer system called Train Control Monitoring System.
Keeping Dubai Metro up and running
"Every train is thoroughly inspected once every three days," said Ali Abdul Qader, Director of Rail Maintenance Department at the Rail Agency of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), who gave Gulf News a guided tour of the various maintenance and repair facilities.
