With more than 1 million registered vehicles serving 1.9 million population, Dubai has one car for every two residents , according to Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) 2010 data.

178,000 ride Metro on Dec.31
THE number of passengers who rode the Dubai Metro on New Year’s Eve reached 178,000. This figure, which represented double the number of passengers who rode the Metro during other holidays, was revealed by the Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Dubai Metro allows food parcels
Inspectors — issuing fines and penalising commuters for carrying food parcels on the Dubai Metro — have gone overboard, commuters said. In a recent incident, a passenger's food package was confiscated onboard the Metro, following which he was asked to disembark at the next station to pay the fine.

RTA launches Public Transport Day initiative
"The Public Transport Day initiative, which attracts participation of various government authorities and departments as well as private sector entities and different community segments, aims at highlighting the role of Dubai Emirate in supporting the initiatives that contribute to the improvement of the environment, attaining sustained development, encouraging inhabitants to use public transport modes and promoting the modern mass transit means provided by the RTA including the Dubai Metro, public buses and marine transit systems," said Al Tayer.
