Road accidents claimed the lives of 72 people in the first eight months of this year in Dubai, down 11 per cent from 81 deaths during the same period of the previous year. Four people died in accidents on Sheikh Zayed Road and Emirates Road each during the first eight months of 2012.
RTA kicks off construction of 13 new pedestrian bridges
Engineer Maitha bin Udai, Executive Director of the Traffic & Roads Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), announced the start of construction works in 13 new footbridges out 31 bridges intended to be constructed by the Agency over the next 5 years, adding that RTA is making strenuous efforts to serve pedestrians in the surroundings of the metro stations in order to ensure smooth & safe public transit.
Capital Mall to open soon in Zayed City
Manazel Real Estate said it is preparing for the opening of its Dh1.07 billion Capital Mall, a project that is part of a 230,000 square metre master development called "9712 Capital", located in Mohammad Bin Zayed City. The mall will be ready for a soft launch in the first quarter of 2012, with its official opening set for the second quarter of the year.
'Green Line will help cut 17% daily trips'
Dubai Metro will absorb approximately 17 per cent of daily trips in the emirate with the opening of the Green line that extends along 23km, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA.
MEP works on Green Line up to 85% complete
At Dubai Healthcare City station, construction works have reached an advanced stage, with the internal finishing works at 55% and electro-mechanical works at 65%. At Al Ras and Al Ghubaiba stations, construction and civil works have been fully completed, as are the metal structures and platform doors. Completion of the finishing works in the two stations ranges from 55% to 70%, whereas the completion of electro-mechanical works ranges from 65 to 75%.
