RTA unveils operational plan of mass transit means
The Roads & Transport Authority has finalized preparations of its Operational Plan of Mass Transit Means; which comprises the Dubai Metro, public buses and taxis, as well as the management of traffic movement at sites witnessing events in Dubai Emirate during Eid al-Adha holiday. The plan has been developed in response to the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to expand the entertainment and shopping events in Dubai during the Eid-in-Dubai event; which runs for two weeks from 18 October to 2 November 2012.
Car-free Day on January 18 in Dubai
Announcing this at a press conference on Wednesday, Director General of DM Hussain Nasser Lootah said 13 government offices and ministries, mostly located along the Dubai Metro line are joining the civic body in its annual initiative on its third anniversary. The Municipality will close its parking lots and senior officials and employees of participating entities will board the Metro and buses on Wednesday, leaving their cars back home.

Emirates NBD to unveil RTA card today
The multi-purpose card will enable customers to use their Visa debit and Visa credit cards to pay for a range of public transport fares, including the Metro, buses, water taxis and even parking fees. Through the combi-card, customers can utilise both the payments functions of their debit/credit cards, as well as the Nol smart card that features innovative contactless payment technology, it was announced in April.
Public Transport Day attracts wide corporate, individual participation
The mass transit system in Dubai witnessed an improvement in the quality and number of means used to deliver services to passengers and the number of public transport users (metro, buses, marine transit modes and taxis) is expected to rise from 250 million in 2009 and 289 million passengers in 2010 to as much as 350 million passengers by the end of this year.
Dubai eyes 30% public transport share by 2020
Walking to work and cycling to work can help encourage people to using public transport, said a senior officer from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The Emirate of Dubai is pursuing a target of at least 30 per cent of the use of public transport by the year 2020.
