Construction work has started on a major diversion coming up on Shaikh Zayed Road for the Dubai Canal project, officials said on Sunday.The initial phase of the work, located near Safa Park, involves building a diversion in the Dubai-Abu Dhabi direction.

In three years from now, the area surrounding Al Safa Park will look nothing like it looks today. Dubai Canal, one of the most prestigious projects undertaken in the history of Dubai (and there have been many), will be extended from Dubai Creek in Business Bay to the Arabian Sea, crossing some of the emirate’s most used roads.

Although it is nothing more than part of modern transport for some, for others Dubai Metro is a true phenomenon. And if a driverless train, self-opening doors and world-largest train track was not enough, the modern-day facility of Dubai even helps its commuters walk.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will launch a new bus route on February 3 to link International City with Warsan 3 and the service will be operational on Fridays.

Roads will be closed around Downtown Dubai and Al Satwa tomorrow morning for the Dubai Marathon. The 42-kilometre race starts at 7am on Emaar Boulevard, which will be closed to traffic and is scheduled to reopen at 2pm, according to the race programme. The 10km race starts at 7.15am and the 3km fun-run starts at 10.30am.
