For its energy efficient measures, the Delhi Metro has become the first rail system in the world to be awarded the Gold Standard foundation — a globally accepted certification standard for carbon mitigation projects, a statement said Sunday.

In view of tight security for Republic Day parade, Delhi Metro train services will be partially curtailed in the city on January 26.

"Automation is certainly a guarantee for safety and punctuality. We saw this as the best option and it has proved to be the right choice," said Adnan Al Hammadi, chief executive of Rail Agency, a part of Dubai's Road Transport Authority that runs the metro here. "As a result, the time between trains is just under four minutes. Also, our punctuality is above 99 percent," Al Hammadi told a group of visiting Indian journalists while making a presentation on Dubai Metro.

After undertaking work on the first Metro railway project in Navi Mumbai, the state is now planning to lay the foundation stone for two more lines of the project in a year. One of the arms of the project, which will go from Vashi-Nerul-Seawoods-Panvel, will run parallel to the existing railway line and eventually link the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Metro railway networks.
