The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today said it would introduce some changes in its smart card add value and refund rules from May 21.

Aimed at increasing the levels of skills of the DMRC engineers in underground tunnelling, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has tied up with the Tunnel Training Academy, Kuala Lumpur. The DMRC engineers will be trained on the latest techniques and skills needed for tunnelling works using the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM).

DOHA: Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail), the company which is overseeing the construction of the country’s integrated railway network, has awarded one of the largest ever single project tunnelling and rail construction insurance policies to a six-member consortium of Qatari National Insurance Companies, led by Qatar Insurance Company (QIC), with additional capacity from international reinsurers and QFC registered insurers.

This has recently been stated during a ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between RTA’s Public Transport Agency and Kleindienst Group, the developer of “The Heart of Europe Islands,” at the Agency Headquarter in Dubai.

Burj Khalifa – Dubai Mall Station on the Red Line ranked a close second with ridership hitting 1,813,854 passengers, or about 20,150 daily passengers boarding or getting off the Metro.

Adel Mohammed Shakri, Director of Transportation Systems, RTA Public Transport Agency, said: “This project is part of RTA’s efforts to enhance the Smart Dubai initiative, and acts as an additional new channel for providing information about bus arrival and departure timetables,” adding that such a service is in use in some European countries and the USA, but saw its debut in the Middle East in Dubai in 2009.

For the first time, the Delhi Metro has become an advertising ground for the political parties with BJP racing ahead of its rivals, including Congress, by putting 3,400 posters inside the train coaches so far.

The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) - the agency which has been entrusted with the task of designing Metro stations - has submitted its designs (of 14 stations) to Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for their approval.
