Doha Metro tender process may begin in early 2011
The Doha Metro will be built in four phases and will have four lines totalling 300km. The four lines will be serviced by 108 stations. It will link the New Doha Airport with major business and conference centres, the new expansive Lusail City, Education City and West Bay areas. Qatar’s wider integrated rail network will include an east coast rail link, a high-speed service between the New Doha Airport, Doha Port and Bahrain, over the planned Friendship Bridge between the two countries – should the project ever be built.
Doha metro could move ahead in December
The Red line is the first line and is designed to run from Doha city to the New Doha International airport. Germany’s Deutsche Bahn signed a memorandum of understanding with local Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company to develop the design for the country’s USD25bn railway network in 2009.

Key regional projects include the New Doha International Airport metro station box currently under construction and the Palm Jumeirah Monorail, which opened in April 2009 and is the Middle East's first monorail system. Doha Metro tenders to be issued by mid 2011
Engineering contractors expect Doha to issue construction tenders for the Red line of the Qatari capital's metro network by the middle of 2011. They said that the Red line will be the Phase I of the Doha metro and the first part of the country's USD 25 billion rail development program.
Metro network will ease traffic
The proposed Doha Metro rail, which will come up in a few years’ time, will provide an effective public transport solution for the city’s growing traffic problems, a senior official of the Invensys Rail (Mena region) said yesterday.
