Doha Metro tenders delayed to Q2
Tenders for the Doha Metro project will be issued in the second quarter, Qatar Railways Co's group director said on Tuesday, in the second delay in tendering the $41 billion rail project. "It will be in April or May," Ghanim al-Ibrahim told Reuters by telephone. The project will include four rail lines and will link stadiums for the 2022 soccer World Cup which Qatar will host, with an underground component in the centre of the capital Doha.

The massive project includes plans for a high-speed long distance rail link, driverless four-line Metro service for Doha and freight lines. The plans also include the West Bay People Mover, and overground rail system designed to distribute passengers around Doha’s tower district.
Qatar to fund 2022 World Cup with cash
The Qatari government will be able to pay for US$70 billion (Dh257.1bn) of infrastructure projects for the 2022 Fifa World Cup of football out of cash flow, the chief of the International Bank of Qatar (IBQ) says. The infrastructure is to be built in phases. Work on a national rail system and metro lines in Doha is expected to start in 2015, along with the development of an airport, a deepwater port and a causeway connecting Qatar with Bahrain.
Making ends meet
The Dubai Metro was one such project where the company offered its services. For this project it was decided that the construction be segmented, so parts of the deck are precast elsewhere and assembled on site using a special gantry. “Sometimes if we can’t use the existing design,” he says, “the company proposes an alternative. We were able to achieve a segment for every two days. We own the specialist equipment, and it’s the first of its kind in the GCC.
