With their eyes set on tapping the huge business prospects offered by the multi-million dollar expansions of airports in the Middle East region in general and GCC states in particular, the world’s leading aviation companies have made a significant presence at the 12th edition of the Airport Show which was opened on Tuesday Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) and Chairman of Dubai Airports.

Abdul Mohsin Younes, CEO of RTA Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector said: “The RTA Strategic Planning Department studied the impact of the metro stations on the surrounding lands and properties in coordination with the Dubai Real Estate Regulatory Agency, or RERA, which provided the data about the rates of lands and properties in areas close or far from the metro stations.”

According to Dubai Events, the total number of visits between December 1, 2011 and January 1, 2012 to the website reached 61,750 with 79.29 per cent of the visits being unique. In the run-up to DSF, visits to the website featuring the festivals events increased by 20 per cent.

Children in Dubai are three times more involved in traffic accidents than at the global level, a local report revealed. The report released by the Dubai Health Authority indicates that 63 per cent of crash victims in Dubai are children, which is three times the prevailing international rate of 22.3 per cent.

The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is launching an array of events & programs through the final ceremony on 2 December 2011. The concept of forming the UAE flag through a bunch of 900 of the best DTC cabdrivers was being materialized through a comprehensive team to look into the implementation of the idea on the second of December.

Governments in the Middle East are expected to spend nearly Dh331 billion in aviation infrastructure development, including Dh86 billion in the GCC states, in the next few decades. The UAE airports have announced investments worth billions of dollars for airport expansion and improvement programmes.

Called SnoozeCube, each of the accommodation units contains a full-sized bed, a touch-screen television offering a selection of entertainment and music, as well as high speed internet access. Most importantly, the units are connected to the airport’s flight information system to ensure that passengers do not miss their flights.

In other Dubai Airport news, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Ishraq Gulf Real Estate Holding Co have opened the Holiday Inn Express Dubai Airport. The 381-room hotel is the largest Holiday Inn Express in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and the fourth property to open in Dubai. It is located opposite Terminal 3 and adjacent to the Dubai Metro.
