Dubai's RTA to construct 17 footbridges in 2013-2016

The Roads and Transport Authority has given the green light to a plan for constructing 17 pedestrian bridges by 2016 covering vital areas in Dubai. The initial phase of the plan will see the construction of nine bridges in by 2014 at a cost of Dh45 million.

On the other hand when I go by Metro I get to walk from the station to the building that I have my meeting in and I can even stand in the Metro if I wanted too which in my opinion is much healthier than being in the same position for hours.”

Dubai bus shelters to get internet connectivity

In addition to the world’s first air-conditioned bus shelters, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will soon boast another first — Wi-Fi-enabled bus shelters. A pilot project is being planned to have Wi-Fi connectivity at some of the 400 new AC bus shelters to come up at new locations by the end of this year.

RTA’s biodiesel bus to start Friday

The new green bus of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will begin its journey from Friday on the feeder route F13. Running between Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station and Financial Centre, the green bus will operate on biodiesel, cutting CO2 emissions by 78 per cent.

The Roads & Transport Authority - Mohammed Al Munji: His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), revealed that seats occupancy in Dubai public buses clocked 41% last year compared with 40% in 2010. About 2050 electronic systems have been installed and operated on 683 buses over the past months of this year displaying the routes map, offering educative materials to the public, and informing passengers about the next stops, on the same lines used in the metro service.
