In a bid to promote road safety, a cash reward has been availed for Intermediate and High schools levels nationwide for the best idea in a contest entitled, “Road Safety”, an initiative by the Roads and Transport Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Dubai Police have launched a phone campaign in a bid to persuade motorists with outstanding traffic fines to pay before Jan 10 as they look for boost revenues, Arabian Business has learned. Police are calling motorists with fines of more than AED10,000 and companies who owe more than AED30,000 to outline an emirate-wide discount on fines to encourage payment.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has inaugurated a new electronic system for following-up the implementation of the Strategic Plan, departments’ performance indicators and project implementation plans (Adaa).

Children in Dubai are three times more involved in traffic accidents than at the global level, a local report revealed. The report released by the Dubai Health Authority indicates that 63 per cent of crash victims in Dubai are children, which is three times the prevailing international rate of 22.3 per cent.

The project is part of a series of initiatives aimed at making Dubai a more pedestrian-friendly city, said Maitha Bin Udai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA. According to the RTA's five-year plan, 24 pedestrian bridges, 36 raised crossings and 86 pelican/puffin crossings will be constructed in various locations in the city.

Potential private sector operators will need to proceed with diligence to ensure that by taking part in Dubai’s public transport system they can reap the dividends, so will likely look carefully at what routes the RTA may bring to the table.

The road and rail networks in Dubai are ideal examples of the world-class service that the people enjoy here, and the public transport bus service offered by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is very popular with commuters.

Many people are unaware that sleeping on the Metro could cost them dear. "What's the great idea about slapping a fine on someone who falls asleep on the Metro?" asked another irate passenger. "Do inspectors get commissions for slapping fines for this non-offence?"

There was a time not so long ago when the Metro was seen as an exercise in mild futility. The general if uninformed public consensus was that Dubai was a car-centric town and that no executive would deign to take a train to work and that these blue streaks would go empty.
