Dubai Police responded to 140 car crashes in the space of six hours as a result of yesterday's fog. Brig Gen Omar Al Shamsi of the central operations department at Dubai Police said they received about 900 phone calls between 3am and 9am on Sunday.
Dubai’s deadliest roads named
Traffic Police have identified the three most deadliest roads in the city and they are Emirates Road, Al Kail Road and Al Garhoud Bridge. Major-General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, director of the Traffic Department, announced yesterday that the total number of deaths in the first eight months of this year stood at 76, out of which 38 took place at night while 34 occurred during the day.
Quiz contest focuses on road safety
In celebration of Gulf Traffic Week 2012, I put together a road safety quiz for shoppers at the Dubai Festival City. The key purpose of the event was to remind people about road safety rules. We managed to gather large crowds of people. It was a successful event with hundreds of attendees. Many of the participants won prizes.
RTA completes 90% of Dubai's road projects
While the RTA marks its sixth anniversary and free public transport day today for the second consecutive year, it has announced the completion of 90 per cent of its roads, traffic and public transport projects at a cost of more than Dh60 billion while more than Dh44 billion will be spent on more projects by 2020.
