The Work Teams of the Automated Fare Collection Department, Corporate Technical Support Sector, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have finalized the upgrading of Nol Cards used in mass transit modes including the metro, public buses, and the water bus, besides using them for paying the parking fees all over Dubai Emirate.

A red ticket could now be bought from any outlet and could be used for travelling on all modes of transport in Dubai, RTA announced. The RTA feels the facility would help get more tourists to use public transport modes and help solve a lot of confusion over ticketing.

THE NOL card used for the Metro and buses has been upgraded and can now be used for water buses and for the payment of parking fees all over Dubai Emirate, a few days before the special groups get a 50 per cent discount on the public transport.

The Dubai Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA) will be presenting its strategic plans to integrate the metro with other modes of transport in the city at the 59th World Congress & Exhibition of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), a global industry event for the international transport community, taking place in Dubai from April 10-14.

The Dubai Metro will increase the number of trains during peak hours to cope with the increasing rush of passengers. In an exclusive interview with Gulf News, Abdullah said they already put more trains into service during peak hours if they become too crowded.

Locations for two more Salik toll gates have been identified to ease traffic congestion on Dubai roads, Gulf News has learnt. A comprehensive study on roads and traffic impact in Dubai has suggested installation of two more Salik toll gates, one on Al Ittihad road near Dubai Police headquarters and the second one in Al Ghusais.

Dalili (literally meaning My Direction) is a navigation system installed in cars aimed at helping motorists to avoid roads congested with traffic. It can also guide a driver about which route to take and tell where an accident has occurred. The gadgets have been on sale for the last three months.

There are no immediate plans to introduce new Salik gates in Dubai, a senior Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official told Khaleej Times. “The Master Plan is still valid and we are studying a few proposals to introduce toll gates at different locations.
