Road accidents claimed the lives of 72 people in the first eight months of this year in Dubai, down 11 per cent from 81 deaths during the same period of the previous year. Four people died in accidents on Sheikh Zayed Road and Emirates Road each during the first eight months of 2012.
Dubai’s deadliest roads named
Traffic Police have identified the three most deadliest roads in the city and they are Emirates Road, Al Kail Road and Al Garhoud Bridge. Major-General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, director of the Traffic Department, announced yesterday that the total number of deaths in the first eight months of this year stood at 76, out of which 38 took place at night while 34 occurred during the day.
New fog monitors to warn Dubai motorists
Fourteen new fog monitoring stations in Dubai will caution motorists and prevent fog-related accidents, the Dubai Municipality said today. The first-of-its-kind automated monitors in the country - including five on various coasts - will improve visibility information on land and sea in the emirate.
20 pedestrian crossings across Dubai this year
As many as 15 of these crossings are part of the metro Green Line project and would open with the launch of Dubai Metro’s much-anticipated second line, while the remaining five are bridges being built on roads considered to be pedestrian black spots like Emirates Road, Abu Baker Siddique Road, Rebat Street and Baniyas Street.
