Dubai Metro Video.

The first public transport ferry service is set to start from August, coinciding with the launch of the Metro Green Line, a senior RTA official told Khaleej Times. The route for the service between Al Ghubaiba and Dubai Marina is expected to complement the Metro as it passes through areas not served by the trains but would be connecting with two major metro stations.

As part of its participation in the Arabian Travel Market 2011, the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) exhibited Terhaal program. An integrated package of vital information and important means needed by visitors and tourists coming to Dubai from all of the world with a view to bringing about a genuine integration of mass transit modes and ensuring their availability for tourists from the moment they board the plane up to their arrival in Dubai Airport such that they can find upon arrival an integrated network of public transport spanning the metro, public buses, water bus and water taxi.

There is a need for regulation and legislation before rushing forward with a railway project forgetting that it is a different kind of enterprise, says Geoff Leffek, Regional Rail Director for MENA at Hyder Consulting.

Aim is to connect two airports by rail; Green Line to be operational by this year end. Dubai plans to extend the rail network to more than 250km from the current 75km by including tramways and more Metro lines by the next decade were revealed agains the backdrop of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) World Congress and Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre

The launch of the second line of the Dubai Metro - the Green Line, has been delayed yet again. The line, which was originally slated to open in April 2010 and then postponed to August 2011, will now be operational in the last quarter of this year, according to the top executive of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
