Midnight mayhem on New Year’s Eve
I was giddy and light-headed, but not from ecstasy. Instead I was puzzled over why a frenzied crowd had been left struggling to get out of the Burj Khalifa station, from 10pm to midnight, turning it into a dangerous metro mosh pit.
Emiratis to get training on Metro operation
The RTA, in coordination with Serco, a UK-based company which operates the Dubai Metro, has started what they call the ‘Knowledge Transfer Programme' for UAE nationals working with the RTA's Rail Agency. The programme was officially launched recently by Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.
Dubai Metro’s Green Line work enters final stage
Work on the Green Line of Dubai Metro is fast approaching completion, with the tracks fully ready and stations taking the final shape. Various types of testing have already begun, with His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently launching the operational phase of Green Line.
Doha metro could move ahead in December
The Red line is the first line and is designed to run from Doha city to the New Doha International airport. Germany’s Deutsche Bahn signed a memorandum of understanding with local Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company to develop the design for the country’s USD25bn railway network in 2009.
Dubai Metro tests special needs facilities with the help of volunteers
Though most facilities provided by the Metro to help passengers with special needs take public transport especially the Metro were appreciated by the special needs passengers, they did point out at some ‘barriers’ which needs to be removed to ensure hassle free journey for them. The volunteers from the Ministry of Social Affairs completed the full journey using the available special needs facilities.
RTA launches Dalili Navigation System
“RTA is constantly keeping track of new developments and technological innovations in the navigation systems industry and stands ready to keep pace with these developments and deliver them to users whenever they are available in future such as 3-D navigational systems, navigational control devices through the driver’s voice, and the addition of new and permanent features to “Dalili” system; which conforms to RTA’s efforts to enhance the traffic coverage and precision of the system.
