The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inked an agreement with UAE Exchange, whereby the later has joined the Dubai Metro Stations Naming Rights project, and has become entitled to rebrand Jebel Ali Metro Station on the Red Line.

An Indian worker is facing trial on charges of groping a woman on the escalator of one of the Dubai Metro stations. The 40-year-old Indian woman told the court that the incident took place in March at the Jebel Ali Metro station.

Plans to extend sections of Dubai Metro are on track with the designs of the expansion on three ends of the network currently being worked out, a senior Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official told Gulf News.

Roads, bridges and other transport projects are among the schemes the RTA is keen to press ahead with this year. The emirate has already boosted its transport system with the near completion of the Dubai Metro and the continuing construction of Al Maktoum International Airport near Jebel Ali.

The developer of a Jebel Ali property project has pronounced itself pleased that the Roads and Transit Authority (RTA) has provided direct access to the Jebel Ali Metro station. The RTA opened what was meant to serve as an emergency access to the south side of the stop after a number of tenants at The Galleries complained they had no access to the station within walking distance.

The Director of Business Development, Public Transport Agency at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Mohammed Abu Baker Al Hashimi revealed that the Agency has launched on March 11 a new feeder bus service shuttling between Jebel Ali Metro Station and the southern part of the Jebel Ali Free Zone Area.

"The RTA has been in close co-ordination with Jafza and Limitless as close stakeholders since the beginning of the design process of the Red Line," said Abdulredha Abu al Hassan, the director of the agency's planning and design department.

RTA will operate 24 trains in the morning peak hours and 29 trains in the evening. Jebel Ali Metro Station opened on Friday following the inspection visit of Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA. The opening of Jebel Ali Metro Station brings the number of stations opened to 27.

Commuters and residents are looking forward to the opening of the long-awaited Jebel Ali Metro station on Friday, which is intended to alleviate long and often delayed commutes and increase access to the rest of the city. The station will provide trains to and from the Jebel Ali Free Zone every five to eight minutes during peak hours

The three routes were 301, which was spanning from Al Rashidiya Metro Station, 308 from Jebel Ali Metro Station, and 309 from Al Qouz Industrial Area and Al Waha Village. When the RTA opens Metro’s Green Line in August this year, that’s when the passengers from Sharjah may have Al Qusais as the closest point for them to enjoy Dubai’s Metro. Now, the other closest points to the Metro from Sharjah are one near Deira City Centre and at the Union Station.
