The announcement that work will start this year on Dubai’s Metro extension was welcomed by residents, although they were divided over whether it will change the travel habits of those living in areas the new line will pass through.

Thousands of passengers were stranded for nearly an hour at several stations during the evening peak hours as Dubai Metro services on the Red Line were interrupted due to what the officials called a “technical glitch.” Apparently, train services were disrupted between Nakheel station near Dubai Internet City and Jafliya metro station for nearly an hour as passengers complained of power failures as well at many stations.

"Stations to be opened include Business Bay, First Gulf Bank, Sharaf DG, Nakheel and Jumeirah Lake Towers stations, and the remaining three stations will be opened upon completion of real estate and investment projects around them; as they have been especially constructed to serve these projects in which construction works are still underway,"
