Dubai Metro, world’s largest driverless rail network extending up to 75 kilometres, celebrates its four years of successful operation today with an increase of 20 per cent increase in its ridership over the years.

Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is cracking down on companies whose drivers have poor safety records via a series of safety campaigns.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has recently launched, for the second time running, Terhal Integrated Package, and distributed it in several Dubai Metro stations, various business outlets and money exchange shops. The Package, which includes purchase vouchers and discounts of up to AED 2000, is sold to the worth of AED 65.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made doing business even easier for corporate Dubai with the deployment of its latest Online service, called RTA eWallet Service. The new service is specifically designed to facilitate the use by businesses who transact vehicle registration, other related-Licensing Agency services and nol card services.

The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) spoke with optimism about traffic safety in Dubai. During the ongoing Gulf Traffic Week, it presented its achievements towards creating safety on the roads.

This month every Metro station of the Red and Green will have a new set of instructions added to the Metro signage. On the platform in front of each door, arrows direct users to disembark through the middle of the gateway, while passengers who want to get on the train are instructed to do so from the left and right sides.

Dubai’s RTA will adopt a new electronic system in the second quarter of this year for recording driving test results to reduce human errors, the Al Roeya newspaper has reported. This could reduce complaints of bias by driving licence applicants, said Ahmed Bahrouzyan, Chief Executive Officer, RTA Licensing Agency.

The cards feature images of Dubai’s sites such as the Burj Al Arab, Burj Khalifa, Al Bastakiya, the Clock roundabout, the Trade Centre, and many other sites and locations. The idea behind issuing these designs is to introduce both residents and visitors to the most important features of Dubai along with its tourism sites and other scenic locations.

Metro and bus commuters in Dubai will soon be able to pay for their journey using mobile phones. A senior official at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed the service would be made available by the third quarter of this year. Speaking with Khaleej Times, Abdulla Al Madani, CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services at RTA said: “We are working very closely with telecom providers in the UAE to roll out Nol services on mobile phones by the third quarter of this year.”
