Dubai With a crime rate of 1.5 per million trips in 2011, Dubai Metro has become one of the safest means of public transport in the world, surpassing world-renowned railways in the US and Europe, it was announced Thursday. Speaking at a ceremony to honour distinguished employees and cooperating departments and establishments, Lt Col Thani said the four-year-old department now covers public buses and marine transport, as well as Dubai Metro.

The highest number of Metro passengers fined, were for eating or chewing gum, offences many said they were ignorant about. In 2011, 10,229 violations were registered, “majority of whom violated the rule prohibiting eating and drinking in certain designated areas,” the director of Rail Operations, Eng. Ramadan Abdullah Mohammed told The Gulf Today on Sunday.

Issuance fee for blue Nol cards in Dubai reduced by 50%

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a 50 per cent discount on the issuance fee of the blue Nol card, which is a personalised travel card to use public transport in Dubai.

Credit card for Metro and parking payments launched

The new ‘Go4it' credit card comes with Nol transit application, used for making payments on the RTA transit network and at parking meters. The credit card is linked to Nol and Salik accounts and can be configured to automatically top up these accounts when the funds fall below certain levels.
