The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently developed a new application operable on mobile phones to facilitate the payment of parking fees under its continuous endeavours to come up with the best and most expedient means of accessing the service.

Dubai’s civic chief has called for tough curbs on car ownership as the city’s economic rebound clogs its roads and a booming population and spike in car sales lengthen rush-hour queues.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has increased the number of outlets selling Unified Fare Cards (Nol cards) for mass transit commuters, spanning the metro, public buses, and the water bus as well as motorists paying for parking fees in Dubai.

The multi-purpose card will enable customers to use their Visa debit and Visa credit cards to pay for a range of public transport fares, including the Metro, buses, water taxis and even parking fees. Through the combi-card, customers can utilise both the payments functions of their debit/credit cards, as well as the Nol smart card that features innovative contactless payment technology, it was announced in April.

"At Gitex this year RTA is showcasing 20 new e-services and gadgets," Ahmad Behroozian, CEO of the RTA's Licensing Agency, said yesterday. "We aim to reach out to more people and serve the customers better by adding new online services and by enhancing existing services.
