In just one week, Dubai will see two major expansions to its transportation infrastructure, with the recently launched Ferry Dubai come on stream alongside the new Jebel Ali station on the Dubai Metro Red Line. The National has reported that the Dubai Metro’s Jebel Ali Free Zone station is set to open this friday (11 March). Chairman of the Board at RTA stated that the “Jebel Ali station is mainly intended to serve the Jebel Ali area and in particular the Free Zone and the Jebel Ali Port.”

Even since the Dubai Metro became part of the essential fabric of the city on 09/09/09, officials at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have made every effort to ensure it meets passengers' needs. Gradually, in an effective and cohesive manner, the officials opened up the stations, making sure the feeder bus network grew along service demands.

Ninety per cent of the work on the Green Line of Dubai Metro has been completed and the second line of the rail network is on schedule to begin its journey from August, a senior RTA official said. At the moment, the work on the Green Line is going according to the plan, said Ramadan Abdullah, Director of Operations at RTA’s Rail Agency told Khaleej Times.

H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority, has recently received a German delegation headed by H.E. George Bode, the Minister of Economy, Labour and Transport. The two parties also explored the future road and infrastructure projects in Dubai.

The Public Transport Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has recently embarked on displaying enhanced designs of public bus schedules, network map and route map (single route) in Dubai Emirate. Under the new method, bus commuters will find it easier to read the timetables, review the network and check the route maps in a smooth and a handy manner.

Beginning in March, senior citizens and students will be able to use public transport in Dubai at half-price. New Nol cards will be introduced to facilitate the initiative. Once again, the RTA proves people come first.
