Nearly 1m people use public transport daily
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), said: “Targeting to realise multi-modal integration of mass transit systems as envisaged in the RTA Strategic Plan, which is aligned with the Dubai Strategic Plan (Infrastructure Sector) aimed at providing an integrated road and transport system that ensures smooth traffic flow and the highest levels of safety for all system users.” RTA is making expeditious efforts to make the public transport means the ideal mobility choice for people in the Emirate.
Dubai’s Al Sufouh Tram still plagued by cash concerns
The consortium of firms behind Dubai’s long-awaited Al Sufouh Tram project has begun a work slowdown as cash concerns continue to plague the multibillion-dollar track. The group, which includes French conglomerate Alstom and Belgium’s Besix, has scaled back the pace of construction on the state-backed tram as discussions over refinancing continue.

RTA: Dubai Metro's Green Line to open August 2011
Dubai metro’s Green Line will open to the public in August 2011, according to a senior RTA official. “The Green Line will be completed in August of this year,” said Younes.
RTA eyeing more Metro lines, extensions in 2011
“We have so many lines...We have Purple, we have blue, which all will be revisited... to see the feasibility... the whole issue is how to go about it...”, said Adnan Al Hammadi, Chief Executive officer of the Rail Agency of Dubai Road and Transport Authority or RTA, on the sidelines of an Roadex-Railex conference in the capital. The chief executive officer said that “there are planned extensions to the Red Line as well as Green Line, which are being revisited and will be announced in the master plan next year.”
More than half a million make use of free public transport...
More than half a million passengers benefited from the free public transport day celebrated in Dubai Monday, to mark the fifth anniversary of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Public Transport Day was officially launched by Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture, and he himself used public transport Monday.

Dubai Metro’s Green Line work enters final stage
