An e-link established between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Department of Economic Development (DED), will help transport firms in processing their applications through a single window.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has rolled out in early October this year a new traffic contest targeting more than 5000 university students inviting them to come up with creative designs in a form of a poster raising the awareness of "Driving Distracters".

Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic, Traffic & Roads Agency and Deputy Head of Public Transport Day, said: “The objective of the event is to attract the public and introduce them to the benefits of using public transport. Holders of Nol cards will be offered free rides on the day on public transport means including the metro, public buses and the Water Bus.

The focus is very much on green transport options as Dubai hosts the 37th World Interferry conference and exhibition, an international event dedicated to breakthrough transport solutions which starts on Monday at the Grand Hyatt hotel.

“It is quite important to offer more selling outlets of Nol Cards in order to serve a wider segment of public transport commuters, particularly with the launch of the Dubai Metro Green Line, which has played a crucial role in integrating the mass transit systems in Dubai, thereby serving a large number of key districts and landmarks of the business sector in the Emirate,” said Al Mudharreb.

Seventeen residents affected by loud noise and damaged homes due to trains at Dubai Metro's Rashidiya depot have received Dh250,000 in compensation - a total payout of Dh4.25 million. Traffic flow in Dubai is likely to become at least 15 per cent smoother as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) embarks on a new project to upgrade and enhance traffic signalling systems across the emirate. To facilitate the project, RTA has created a database of all traffic junctions. In the first phase, the project will involve synchronising and upgrading of 180 signalised junctions.
