RTA’s Licensing Agency has recently run an inspection campaign targeting driving institutes and centers in Dubai to verify their compliance with the rules & regulations applicable at the RTA.

There were 1,137,750 registered vehicles in Dubai at the end of 2012 compared to 1,031,961 in 2010, an increase of 106,789 vehicles in two years. With vehicle registrations required to be renewed annually, there is a need for additional vehicle testing and registration centres to meet the demand.

Cheaper public transport, the economic downturn and higher costs have contributed to a dip in demand for driving licences in recent months, Khaleej Times has learnt. Inquiries have fallen and residents from lower income groups now prefer public transport like the Dubai Metro, according to the RTA.
