Dubai Metro operator acquires Mubadala subsidiary

Dubai Metro operator Serco has bought facilities management firm JBI Properties Services Company from Mubadala Development Company, the investment arm of the Abu Dhabi government, it was announced on Thursday. Serco currently manages operation of Dubai Metro stations and depots, the UAE University in Al Ain and the New York University currently being built on Saadiyat Island.

With a capacity to accommodate 48 trains at any given time, Al Qusais Depot is not only the largest of the three depots that serve the Dubai Metro, but is also one of the most advanced in the world. Fully air-conditioned, the depot is divided into three main buildings — a stabiling shed, a Light Repair Workshop and a Heavy Repair Workshop. Apart from this, there is also a test track of more than one kilometre and a fully automatic washing shed.

RTA to boost French relations

Thirty Emiratis have been employed to fill positions created by the opening of the Dubai Metro Green Line. The move is part of a Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) programme to have Emiratis in 30 to 50 per cent of leadership and supervisory jobs within the first five years of the Metro's operation.

The Green Line will officially be opened to passengers on Friday, September 9, exactly after two years of the launching of the Red Line on September 9, 2009. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has deployed 456 buses to shuttle on 39 routes to serve the Line linking the metro stations with the neighbourhood. This includes the normal route buses and the feeder buses.

Serco says in line, on track for 2012 targets

British outsourcing group Serco said it was on track with its 2011 expectations after some strong contract wins and was well placed to achieve future revenue targets. Serco, which among other things runs London's cycle-hire scheme and Dubai's metro, on Monday said it had won 1.6 billion pounds ($2.62 billion) worth of work since the start of its financial year on Jan. 1.
