Under the auspices of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, the Dubai Emirate will host the 37th Interferry Conference (21-24 October 2012); which is considered one of the most specialized conferences of the water transport industry, and the event is set to be held for the first time in the Middle East.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has seen an increase in the number of passengers using public transport in Dubai during the first half of 2012, with 207.48 million taking the emirate’s mass transport system. This compares with 180.54 million passengers using the Metro, public buses, water transport and taxis during the first half of 2011.

The Public Transport Agency, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), is considering to open shortly new commercial water routes via Ferry Dubai to Lebanon Island located at the World Island, in coordination with the Island such that visitors can access the Island and enjoy all services in place.

"The transit information uploaded on Google Maps reflects our vision of offering users the information that assists them in their daily life. The ability to track the optimal daily travelling routes through the computer of mobile phone is an invaluable tool for users throughout Dubai Emirate," added Al Madani.

While the RTA marks its sixth anniversary and free public transport day today for the second consecutive year, it has announced the completion of 90 per cent of its roads, traffic and public transport projects at a cost of more than Dh60 billion while more than Dh44 billion will be spent on more projects by 2020.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is seeking to make the 3rd edition of the Public Transport Day a highly captivating event with the aim of attracting more passengers to use public transport means, including the metro, public buses and water bus, free of charge for one day.

The day will be marked with a free use of the Dubai Metro, public buses and water bus for Nol card holders. The second round of the initiative is set to be widely popular among public and private entities as well as all community segments.

His Excellency Michael Camuñez, Assistant US Secretary of Commerce for Market Access and Compliance commended the projects delivered by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and their contribution to easing the congestion and developing modern mass transit systems spanning Dubai Metro, public buses, and marine transit modes in addition to an extensive network of roads and bridges capable of satisfying the needs of the Emirate in future.
