UAE residents who own towing or car-recovery trucks should take note.

As per the new regulations, those who do not comply with the amended rules and safety features will be fined starting from Sunday, July 22.

“Tow trucks must comply with the new specifications, including the safe rear bumpers, high quality rubber guards, warning triangles, reflective stickers, and orange warning lights and alarm systems, ” said Colonel Saif Salem Al Mazrouei, director of the Licensing Department in Al Dhafra region.

According to the Federal Traffic Law, the penalty for driving a light vehicle in a reckless or dangerous way can be fined Dh2,000 dirhams, 23 black points, and have their vehicle impounded for 60 days. Heavy vehicle violations not meet safety and security requirements can be fined Dh2,000 dirhams and reap 6 black points.

Abu Dhabi Police had set the period for compliance with the new specifications from July 1, 2017 to July 22, 2018.

New towing vehicles will not be registered or licensed unless they are deemed compliant. More
