Rush hour traffic in Sharjah and Dubai was back as students returned to school after a long summer vacation.
There were tailbacks on Emirates Road towards the Sharjah Ring Road, Amman Street, Exit 63, S102, D97 and 12 Street.
A vehicle caught fire in an accident at 7.20am on Ittihad Road opposite Al Qeiyada Metro Station toward Dubai. Police urged motorists to kindly use alternative routes.
Police also advised drivers to slow down and be careful when entering and exiting school zones.
Heavy congestion was causing delays on the E311, Fifth Industrial Street and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road towards 112 Street, S116, Sheikh Khalifa Street and Maliha Road.
Further tailbacks were on the Mafraq-Ghweifat International Highway towards Al Nahda Road, Exit 65, D91, Al Quds Street and Baghdad Street Exit 66, and on S113 towards Tuliatela Street, 102 street, E11, S115 and 109 Street.
There was slow traffic on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Street towards 112 Street, Maliha Road,102 Street and from Al Habtoor City to Al Qouz 1 on D69 – Al Meydan Street.
In the capital, heavy congestion was reported on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway towards E11-346.
Moderate delays were reported on Corniche Road and 1st street towards 4th street, and on 30 Street towards 3 street, 19th Street and Al Saada street and approaching 19th Street.
Traffic was also crawling along Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street towards 29th Street and in the Sheikh Zayed Tunnel towards Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street. More info
